Highway 180 is Fresno County's only major access to Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. In recognition of this and the scenic quality of this road, the Fresno General Plan sets Highway 180, from Centerville to its end near Cedar Grove deep in Kings Canyon National Park as a Scenic Highway.
On Oct. 15, 2015 Highway 180 from the Alta Canal eastward became an Official California State Scenic Highway
